The IRC network is one of the oldest chat protocols available but, in spite of this, it's still used by many computer users around the world. That's because it offers simple and fast communication with more users at once and also file exchange. But in order to benefit of these features, you have to install an IRC client. There are dozens of clients out there, but few of them offer the simpleness and the features that an average user may want. A good example would be ThrashIRC.

This is a Windows IRC client that offers exactly what the user needs, without containing the useless features found in other similar programs. As it's a Windows application, it can be installed in the easiest way possible and it's also very easy to use, having a lot of graphical buttons.

At the first run of the software, it will try to automatically connect to a sample server and channel, for proving the user how exactly it works. One can easily connect to a preferred server and channel by simply typing the server's address and the channel's name. The program can also detect all the channels hosted by a certain server, for making it easier to connect to a preferred one.

Experienced users can control the program from the command line, but this requires some knowledge regarding IRC networks. After connecting to a channel, one can chat and can also use various emoticons. He can also exchange files with other users. The interface of ThrashIRC is based on colors, for making it easier to see a certain type of message. For example, if a user mentions your name in its message, it will be displayed in a different color, in order to stand out.

The list of channels and servers, together with all the program's settings can be saved as a backup file, so it can be reused later on.

Pros

It allows one to easily connect to any server or channel. Besides that, it allows sending text and emoticons. Furthermore, it allows saving the list of channels, servers and the program's settings as a backup file.

Cons

The menu system looks a bit crowded. ThrashIRC is an alternative to any IRC client on the market, offering some interesting features.
